Willamette River

The Willamette River is the largest river located entirely in Oregon. This is one of the best spots for anglers to catch many different species of fish.

Portland, Oregon

The Willamette River is very accessible to Portland residents and visitors as it runs right through the heart of downtown Portland. The Willamette flows to the Columbia River just 10 miles from downtown. This mouth of the river is productive and populated with salmon and sturgeon.

This location is just downstream of the mouth of Multnomah Channel, the main travel route for spring Chinook.

Columbia River

Salmon fishing is the biggest angling attraction to the Columbia River. The Columbia River runs from the Oregon coast to Portland and is the home to healthy salmon, making the seasons fairly predictable. However, winter months are a peak time for salmon fishing.

Cathlamet, Washington

This is a go to spot on the lower Columbia River that is a great “holding area.” In this area Spring Chinook slow their upstream migration and stay in these areas for hours to weeks.

The McKenzie River is one of the most stocked rivers in Oregon with trout due to several fish hatcheries. The McKenzie River encompasses 1.300 square miles comprised of tributaries, streams and lakes. It is the home to wild and hatchery trout, spring chinook and summer steelhead, sturgeon and much more.

Winchester Bay

Winchester Bay is located on the Central Oregon Coast and is on of the top salmon fishers in the Pacific Northwest. Fishing in Winchester Bay is best from July to September. Chinook salmon and Coho can be found in less than 300 feet of water.

Depoe Bay

Depoe Bay is home to a variety of fish such as lingcod, coho salmon, chinook salmon, halibut and more. It is also a great place to spot whales, go crabbing, and bottomfish.

Siletz River

The Siletz River houses spring summer and winter runs of Steelhead and fish can be caught year round. Anglers on the Siletz River take home about 4,00 hatchery fish in a calendar year. The Siletz River enters the Pacific Ocean at Lincoln City, a popular beach town within easy reach of Salem and Portland.

Siuslaw River

The Siuslaw River can be among Oregon’s most elite Big King Salmon fishing systems. 3,00 to 5,00 big Chinook salmon are harvested in peak runs. The Siuslaw River is an easy drive from the Eugene and Springfield area.

The Umpqua River is located near Roseburg, Oregon and is a great river for catching salmon and steelhead. The rapids, rocks and willows make this river a fun challenge in the winter months.
